A thoroughly pleasant listening experience.

A four-piece that have been knocking around for a decade now, JOANovARC have finally released their debut album after impressing last year with two tracks, 'White Trash' and 'Live Rock & Roll'. Whilst the latter stands out as one of the better tracks (and is the band's anthem) it's great to hear an album that has plenty of other fresh tracks.

All girl bands tend to get lumped together, but I have to say that JOANovARC are a breath of fresh air, as whilst they aren't anything new musically, they aren't trying to be The Runaways, Girlschool, or even The Donnas. They deliver solid, melody-friendly Hard Rock with a definite edge to it, plenty of catchy riffage and choruses and enough variety to stop boredom setting in.

Lead vocalist Sam Walker reminds me a little of Hayley Williams from Paramore, mainly due to the "fuck you" attitude peeking out from behind every vocal track. Most tracks hover around the three and a half minute mark, delivering short, sharp bursts of Punk-tinged Rock Pop with good lyrics and a solid production from Gil Norton.

'Ride Of Your Life' has been a long time coming but it's certainly worth the wait, with a strong mix of instant tracks and growers from a talented foursome who are doing it their way; God knows what an eighties record company would have dressed them up in. A thoroughly pleasant listening experience that makes me want to see what they sound like live and what they come up with next.
