If your penchant is for riff-orientated Alternative Metal, Animan may just float your boat.

Rising from the ashes of Swedish band Backwater, this act is essentially a duo formed by Thomas Kihlberg (lead vocals, guitar) and Björn Wennerborg (lead vocals, guitar). Don't let that fool you though, as Animan make a hell of a lot of noise with a little help from Viktor Ax (bass) and Jonas Källsbäck (drums).

The music fits into the genre of Alternative Metal but the vocals give the band a melodic and more distinguished tone than many of their counterparts. Opener 'Black Star' has a thunderous riff that would have any self-respecting Metallica fan nodding their head in approval; it's reminiscent of another Swedish band JD Miller. The melodic 'Distance' has a Puddle Of Mudd 'Blurry' style feel to it and perhaps illustrates the band at its best.

That's not to say that the band don't have a host of other noteworthy songs. There's Godsmack influences on the downbeat 'Unknown' and 'The Oath', Soundgarden stadium style Grunge on the title track and a host of Sevendust style tunes peppering the album, 'Scars' being a particular standout. Kihlberg has the typical nineties style, lower register vocal but with a far greater range, giving the songs breadth and substance.

If your penchant is for riff-orientated Alternative Metal, Animan may just float your boat.
