A more than worthwhile investement, in particular for anybody who's yet to experience their charms.

Cats In Space have come a long way during their mere three year existence, with two very well received albums, and support slots with the likes of Deep Purple, Status Quo and Thunder – though the latter's Danny Bowes does have a vested interest as a member of their management team. As the recording equipment was in place for Thunder to record what would become their live 'Stage' set at Cardiff's Motorpoint Arena in March 2017, CIS's opening set was also recorded for this live album.

As their sophomore effort 'Scarecrow' was still five months away from release, only 'The Mad Hatter's Tea Party' is selected, with the remainder of the set culled from the 'Too Many Gods' debut, including the title-track, the slightly cheesy but bloody-annoyingly-catchy 'Only In Vegas', 'Last Man Standing', 'Mr Heartache', 'Greatest Story Never Told' and 'Five Minute Celebrity'. The sound quality is amazing, and though vocalist Paul Manzi's voice falters just very slightly on a couple of the higher parts, full credit goes to the band for not "touching up" the recording. The backing harmonies are impeccable, and musically the band play an absolute blinder, enhancing their reputation as a formidable live act.

Basically, this release has been requested by fans and will fill a gap, keeping the CIS name out there until album number three appears. Some may complain that it's only thirty-four minutes long, but that's unavoidable as it was merely a support set (it's a shame they couldn't include their 'The Sweeney' intro tape, but I'm assuming that's down to copyright rather than time restraints!), yet 'Cats Alive!' is a more than worthwhile investement, in particular for anybody who's yet to experience their charms.

Next stop for Cats In Space? The support for Jeff Lynne's ELO on this year's autumn tour would be perfect!
