Badge clearly Rock hard in all the right places with this being a solid if unspectacular album.

In 2002 guitarist/singer Matti Norlin and drummer Fredrik Haake formed Badge. Both hailing from Sweden, their combined love for hard-hitting Blues brought them together musically with 'If It Hurts It Must Be Good' being the band's third release to date. Norlin has also released two solo albums of his own, although for the present he intends to forge ahead with Badge as his primary musical endeavour.

Describing the band as a Blues act is somewhat misleading because 'Reap What You Sow' has more in common with a band like Panic Cell, all rapid-fire riffs and tortured vocals – music perfect for a pub brawl! 'The Game', despite all its Pop Punk tones, is a directionless mess of ideas, and it's only when we get to 'In The Eye Of The Storm' that we hear the Blues the band claim to be influenced by. Clutch, a band that does this kind of music effortlessly, is an influence I detected on 'Trapdoor'... only Clutch does it so much better!

That all being said, the album is not without its moments, 'We Will See Light' has some hypnotic vocal melodies and a Pink Floyd vibe to the song-writing. Badge is a band that has a rebellious musical nature, though not without subtlety. 'Traitor' is soaked in Blues grass music that lifts the spirit, and 'Mapped Out Trail' taps into The Doors' more Gothic nature with fine results.

Badge clearly Rock hard in all the right places with this being a solid if unspectacular album.
