Killer guitar work and great songs.

Kicking off with a rather cheesy intro that sounds like something from a B movie trailer, it is difficult to tell just how serious Suicide Bombers take them selves.

Clearly the powerhouse opening track ‘Lets Rock ‘n’ Roll’ has serious intentions to rock your socks off and pretty much succeeds, singer Chris Damien Doll giving a menacing vocal as the whole band let loose. The wonderfully titled ‘Napalm Heart’ offers some smart twin lead guitar work not unlike Iron Maiden mixed with an abundance of attitude all wrapped up in a trim attractive chorus. The band’s influences are clear for all to hear, G’n’R and LA Guns come to mind, the manner in which they play is often brash but with a good ear for a melody.

There are moments of predictability like ‘This Time Tomorrow’ which sounds like early Ratt but features an impressive guitar solo that raises the song above the average. One song that has really stuck out for me is ‘Smoke And Mirrors’, a song that has more than a passing resemblance to something Alice Cooper may have recorded in the late eighties. Special mention should go to guitarist Lazy Leather who throws in some fluid guitar work that enhances the experience of this song and so many others here. It is all skull crashing choppy guitar work with ‘High On Explosives’ a neat little punk moment, before we head into ‘Electric Fire’ which sounds like a cross between Motley Crue and The Cult. ‘Teenage Breakdown’ is the most commercial moment on offer here but not at the cost of any credibility to song, there are some sweet lyrics and a contagious chorus that will have every young goth rock girl crying into her Jack Daniels!

So, all in all Suicide Bombers have killer guitar work great songs and a look to match their ambitions of stardom. Let’s see where it takes them…
