Worth every second of the eight-year wait.

Back in 2009, I received the debut album 'Screaming Our Sins' by Plan Three for a review for this very publication, and to this day it remains one of my most listened to reviewed albums from a band that were previously unheard of. The sextet from the wonderful city of Stockholm, Sweden are a million miles from the typical Swedish bands that regularly grace these pages, yet just as compelling. '...Sins' is a quite brilliant Post-Grunge/Alternative Rock album, one that's awash with melody and glorious string textures, while retaining a darker, almost Gothic edge that creates a wonderful atmosphere. In 2011, they released an EP entitled 'The Signal Part One', however, 'Part Two' failed to materialise as the band went on hiatus. Although they regrouped in 2014 to record the solitary single 'When Everything Comes To An End', it appeared that was that, but I'm delighted that '...End' has finally found a permanent home on Plan Three's long-awaited sophomore release, the enigmatically-titled 'Wish I Was Stormborne'.

Retaining the same line-up of vocalist Jacob Lovén, guitarists Mathias Garneij and Tommie Hammar, bassist Peter Kjellin and keyboardist David Clewett, with drummer Kristoffer Folin the only unoriginal member, '...Stormborne' picks up directly where '...Signal' left off. That being said, the heavier post-Grunge elements of '...Sins' have been smoothed over, with tracks like 'The Otherside', 'Unveil The Unknown', 'Where Do We Go From Here', 'Oblivion' and 'Burn' all displaying a more commercial crossover direction without sacrificing any of the aesthetics that made the debut so appealing. However, the wonderful atmospherics remain, courtesy of the smartly arranged string elements and beautiful keyboard work of Clewett and the emotional vocal delivery of Lovén, most notably on opener 'Welcome To The Edge', 'Echo', the instrumental title-track and the ballads 'Carl Sagan', 'Photograph' and the aforementioned '...End' – if you need any more convincing then check out the brilliant video for this song on YouTube to see exactly what Plan Three are all about.

There was a time when I never thought I would ever hear a new Plan Three album, but 'Wish I Was Stormborne' is worth every second of the eight-year wait – please don't leave it so long next time guys!
