AC Angry lack the substance to back up the attitude and 'Appetite For Erection' feels, well, a little limp.

AC Angry are going at it full-throttle in attempt to outdo all other bands in vulgarity and sleaze with their second album, 'Appetite For Erection'. There's some throbbing bass, a couple of racy solos and the layered backing vocals Rock fans know and love. But ultimately, it's all just a little unoriginal.

Opener 'I Hate AC Angry' is a toss-up between a track thrown in as a last-minute thought and the kind of short, solo piece you might expect in the middle of the album. A harmonica whistles in between doses of Hard Rock, but it all feels a little bit unfinished. '4TW' kicks the album off properly, the bass really bringing it altogether with a pulsating undercurrent. 'No Way To Go But Down' starts out well with a dirty feel and slower pace, but it quickly loses direction and Alan Costa's vocals seem strangely unsuited to the album's sound. 'I Wanna Hurt Somebody' has fun rippling hooks of guitar slicing through the otherwise rather unexciting attempt at an "anthemic" piece.

'Appetite For Erection' is where we finally hit a solid riff but Costa's vocals still feel over-stretched, both in terms of range and stamina. Like the rest of the tracks, it's packed full of lyrics against the world, love of anarchy and sex, but they sometimes feel a little overstated and lose their appeal and fun in being so direct. Who doesn't love a good innuendo? 'The Balls Are Back In Town' is a case in point; there's a basic but solid guitar riff behind Costa's unwavering attempt at gruff but sultry vocals, yet here even the solo feels monotonous, with nothing really taking off in the song. The closing track 'Testosterone' is one of the harder hitters on the album and I'm glad they close it out with energy. It's one of the better tracks, varying more in pace and texture and actually has some real punch behind it.

I want to love any attempt at bringing more ballsy Hard Rock into the 21st century, especially when the enthusiasm is all there. Sadly, AC Angry lack the substance to back up the attitude and 'Appetite For Erection' feels, well, a little limp.
