This might be Dead Memory's fairytale album, but for me, it's not one with a happy ending.
Dead Memory's third album starts promisingly enough; autumn being the perfect season for a Fatal Smile/Sister-esque 'Intro' offering to set a spooky mood. Sadly, the promise evaporates from the very first full track.
'Behind Enemy Lines' is a Hard Rock piece with pace and layered backing vocals, but the singing falls flat, thus rendering the whole song kind of bland. 'Red Light Show' and 'Welcome To My Fairytale' display the Indie/Alternative influences of the band with the latter feeling more melodic if rather melancholic.
'Infected' and 'Friday Night' are a little edgier and heavier. There are more eighties padded backing vocals, but the album never really takes off. It's not exactly bad, but it's not exciting either. The closing track 'Blackstar' is a duet, yet in truth, it feels more like two separate songs that keep running into each other.
This might be Dead Memory's fairytale album, but for me, it's not one with a happy ending.
