Heavy Metal for people who dislike pretension and enjoy strong, powerful songs played with an obvious passion.

It's been a long four years since we were treated to the debut album 'Emergence' from UK Metal monsters Neuronspoiler and I'm pleased to tell you it's been pretty much worth the wait. Once again, they've delivered as solid a Metal album as you could want, right down to the logo and Sci-Fi album cover!

There's something unerringly British about Neuronspoiler, even though I am sure they could slot into a European Metal line-up without any difficulty. Part of it is the powerful vocals from J.R. Vox which hover somewhere in between traditional high-register Power Metal and some bloke down the pub who does a good Bruce Dickinson impression. There's just this slight lack of polish that is endearing, often giving the impression that this is a band you might see in a pub or small club and walk away wondering why they aren't bigger.

Musically, they mix Power Metal licks with traditional Heavy Metal sensibilities that results in an album with both balls and melody that hits more than it misses. Opener 'Reclaim Your Path' is a great example of things going right, featuring both solid, aggressive and enduring melody, whilst 'Queen Of The Darkness' gives the middle of the album some drag by being a bit of a plodder and not really going anywhere.

In essence, what we have here is basically a NWOBHM album crossed with a modern Power Metal album, two genres that go rather well together. Neuronspoiler are not a band that are likely to be your favourite, but are one of those groups you get your friends to listen to and then drag them along to a gig, possibly attended by nineteen other people. 'Second Sight' is Heavy Metal for people who dislike pretension and enjoy strong, powerful songs played with an obvious passion. Not perfect, but not at all bad, I think I'll go and see Neuronspoiler next time I get the chance myself.
