If you like your Rock with a satisfying Country twang, without completely going all cowboy boots and rodeos on you, then there's plenty to enjoy in this release.

The last album from Every Mothers Nightmare was fifteen years ago therefore I'm not surprised they've been off my personal radar. Bullied out of the business by Grunge, they went into hiding for seven years after their 1993 effort 'Wake Up Screaming'. A few early noughties albums seemed to be all we were going to get from them so it was a surprise when they came back with a five track EP in 2015 that kicked ass. This album is that EP plus three new studio tracks and three live tracks.

The band were classed as Hair Metal back in the day and they visually fit the bill for sure. Musically, they now have a definite Country feel to them, which makes sense for a Nashville band. For example, the album's first brand new track, 'Days Are Through', wouldn't be out of place in the Billboard Country Chart, but that doesn't stop it from being a damn good song, if a little laid back for some.

Vocalist Rick Ruhl sounds great and still has that Tennessee drawl that pervades the songs nicely. Purists will be interested to know that he's the only original member of the band remaining which may account for this lighter sound that embraces the Country genre more than they used to. All three of the new tracks have a Country feel, whereas the five from the original 2015 EP are more mixed, with two more traditional rockers and three countrified ones. If I'm totally honest, I prefer the Country style stuff as they really do this well. The live tracks are new recordings of older material, and if nothing else, proves that as a band they are still worth checking out if they play in your area.

'Grind' doesn't offer a great deal to anyone who has the original EP, but if you like your Rock with a satisfying Country twang, without completely going all cowboy boots and rodeos on you, then there's plenty to enjoy in this release. Without the live tracks, you wouldn't think it was the same band that released the 1990 self-titled debut, and I think a name change would have been appropriate here.

Whatever the name they opt to go by, 'Grind' has some really nice tracks on it, and I'd love to hear a full-on Country-edged Rock album from them next time.
