From near indifference to becoming a bona fide contender for one of my Albums Of The Year, 'Ecstasy' truly lives up to its billing.

For some inexplicable reason, Germany's Kissin' Dynamite have never really been on my radar of must-listen-to bands, having only previously heard 2010's 'Addicted To Metal' and not been exactly overwhelmed. Fair enough, the band were still in their teens at the time, but if their maturity levels have increased so much in eight years to the stage where they can release an album as strong as 'Ecstasy' (their sixth studio effort), then I really do need to invest in their back catalogue.

Absolutely overflowing with the kind of intoxicating melodies normally the hallmark of the Swedes, 'Ecstasy' immediately draws you in with the catchy-as-hell opener (and first single) 'I've Got The Fire' and basically won't let you go until thirteen tracks later when the rabble-rousing 'No Time To Wonder' reaches its enthusiastic crescendo.

Along the way you're treated to the somewhat darker yet phenomenally catchy 'You're Not Alone', the immensely Gotthard-esque 'Somebody's Gotta Do It', the more contemporary sounding 'Placebo' and 'Wild Wind', and the Southern Rock-tinged 'Breaking The Silence', while 'Superhuman' and 'Waging War' nod at Erik Grönwall era H.e.a.t. The best track for this particular scribe is the rousing title-track 'Ecstasy' which features a quite fantastic guest vocal contribution from Anna Brunner (Exit Eden) and is another potential single.

If ballads are your thing, then 'Still Around' is your classic lighters-in-the-air moment, while the quite beautiful 'Heart Of Stone' introduces a dramatic Celtic influence which certainly brings to mind Gary Hughes/Ten and emphasises just how much Kissin' Dynamite have matured in their eleven year existence.

From near indifference to becoming a bona fide contender for one of my Albums Of The Year, 'Ecstasy' truly lives up to its billing!
