One for fans of heavy Hard Rock who appreciate stylish guitar playing and strong songs.

I came across Tara (gui-tara) Lynch via her video for the song 'Antidote' and was impressed to say the least. Delving into her history we find a talented young woman who, at the age of eleven, began teaching herself how to play her older brother's guitar. He was so impressed with her self-taught musicianship that he gave her the instrument. Years later Lynch studied guitar with Steve Vai, drums with Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers) bass with Björn Englen (Yngwie Malmsteen) and piano with Derek Sherinian (Dream Theater etc). This dedication to her art has led to this, her debut album 'Evil Enough'.

Describing her album, on which she composed all music and lyrics, Lynch says, "What you get is Melodic Metal with attitude" and she's not far wrong. Helping out we have Mark Boals, Tony McAlpine, Glen Sobel, Vinnie Appice, Phil Soussan and many more, which isn't a bad backing band by any standards. But it's Tara Lynch herself who shines brightest on this CD. Her guitar playing is forceful but full of melody, her song writing is dark, heavy and uncompromising, but it's also brimming with melodic highlights that give the songs a huge lift. And her superb vocals (I hope she doesn't mind me saying this) remind me of the great Lana Lane.

Having a moment in the company of songs like the wonderful 'Antidote', 'Evil Enough', the moody 'Kringeworthy' and 'Unbreakable' will prove that Lynch has a real ear for a Metal melody. This, though, is only half the story as the CD is made up of both songs and instrumentals, and the tracks 'Exit The Warrior', 'Gui-Tara Rises' and the superb 'Enigmatic' show the listener just what a consummate and accomplished guitarist/songwriter/musician she is.

For a person who is a relatively unknown musical force, this album is a statement which says, "Hi, my name is Tara Lynch and I'm here, in your face. Get used to it." One for fans of heavy Hard Rock who appreciate stylish guitar playing and strong songs. Roll on album number two.
