Lizzy Borden is back with a wonderful new album.

Eleven years after the critically acclaimed 'Appointment With Death', Lizzy Borden is back with a wonderful new album that has been released through the Metal Blade label. Borden co-produced this new release with long-time partner Joey Scott (who also drums throughout). It's mixed by Greg Eidelman (of Metallica and Black Sabbath fame) and mastered by David Bowie, Rob Zombie, Tom Petty and Marilyn Manson cohort Tom Baker so this is a fine sounding album indeed.

Regarding who plays on the album, it is fundamentally Borden himself actually! He proves himself to be multi-talented, laying down not only the vocals, but all the guitars and bass guitars himself as well as some keyboards! All I can say is job well done indeed Sir. Most of the keyboards are supplied by another talented player – Marliese Quance Mildenberger – who adds swathes of colour and shade to Borden's dark visions.

As much as I've always admired Borden, his vocal histrionics have sometimes (to me, anyway) "grated". However, as he has matured, so his vocals have improved and become less strident and more powerful, and here that maturation continues. This is an impressive album with Borden creating a fully rounded and comprehensively striking release.

The title (and opening) track is a thunderous statement of intent, but 'Obsessed With You' is even better, it's a truly terrific riff-fest that should be an instant crowd pleaser. Another real gem is the riff-tastic 'Long May They Haunt Us', a neck-snapping number that could easily become a concert gem. 'The Scar Across My Heart' is another grand slam, a track that sits easily amongst any previous Borden classic. 'My Midnight Things (Reprise)' is an utterly gorgeous ballad that sees Borden in poignant form.

Sadly, although the album is good to go, so far Lizzy Borden doesn't have a touring band, though given the talent he has attracted in the past, I'm certain that a stellar ensemble will soon be on the road with him. Everything crossed, he will find his way across the pond to Blighty because I, for one, can't wait to experience his midnight frolics!
