'Blood Alliance' is a magical, musical adventure.

‘Blood Alliance’ is the fifth full CD release from the UK’s premier melodic power metal sextet, ‘Power Quest’, and without doubt it’s their finest offering to date. The opening track, the instrumental ‘Battle Stations’ unleashes itself as a brutal, twisting, barrage of pompous, power metal, galloping through the speakers and setting the trend for the exquisite delights that follow. Next up is the suitably titled ‘Rising Anew‘, which sets off at a frenetic pace with duelling twin guitars going head to head with the incendiary device drumming, wrapped around beautifully layered keyboards, and kept on track with a stabilising bass unit, all of which are complemented by the vocal talents of Chitral “Chitty” Sompala.

‘Glorious’, is a rousing anthem continuing the flamboyant, elaborate guitar battle raging between Andy Midgley and Gav Owen. These two guys are so technically skilled, sending the listeners head in a spin with all the chops and breaks that they incorporate into each track. ‘Sacrifice’ is saturated in trademark power metal excellence, elevating the keyboards to the heights of majestic pomp and ceremony, whilst serving up delicious, flurrying delights. ‘Survive’, starts with a grand keyboard intro, swiftly giving way, to the bullying guitars , all of which become amalgamated by the steering rhythm section, keeping perfect harmony, allowing for “Chitty” to steal the show with his soaring vocals.

You should by now, be getting the picture that this release contains absolutely no fillers; it is perfect from start to finish. ‘Better Days’ slows things down slightly with big keys making way for ‘Chitty’ to come in sounding like Tony Mills from his ‘Shy’ days, sublime. ‘Crunching The Numbers’, literally crunches along, with a heady introduction and atmospheric theme throughout.

‘Only In My Dreams’, sounds very ‘Malmsteen’ like, ala ‘You Don’t Remember, I’ll Never Forget’, with its intro and guitar playing , which is certainly no bad thing. Next up the nine minute epic that is the title track delivering a mighty slab of delicious technical ecstasy which leaves the listener captivated from start to finish. The closing track ‘City Of Lies’, does as it was intended leaving you fulfilled from the magical, musical adventure that is ‘Blood Alliance’. It is fitting that the band has put out such a stellar release almost ten years to the date from their earliest inception.
