One thing is assured where Soto is concerned and that's quality.

To my mind Jeff Scott Soto is one of the foremost vocalists of our generation; he has the versatility and ability to sing anything from a tender AOR ballad to a balls-to-the-wall rocker (and anything in between) with the utmost conviction and skill. Recently he's lent his incredible talent to the super-group Sons Of Apollo to great acclaim and now he continues the heavier end of his repertoire with SOTO, the vehicle he uses for his own material in this particular style. One thing is assured where Soto is concerned and that's quality.

Where I believe Sons Of Apollo and SOTO differ is that the former accentuated their virtuosity, while the latter rely more on the songs which put them in the same category as one of Soto's earlier outfits – the much-loved Talisman.

'Hypermania' opens proceedings and it mixes heavy verses with an instantly catchy and highly melodic chorus, thus setting a marker for what is to come. The more I listen to this song the more I think it could have been a W.E.T. composition, albeit with a few minor adjustments. The title-track has Edu Cominato's drums to the fore, a great riff and once again Soto taps into the consciousness with a strong chorus; Jorge Salan delivers a fine guitar solo.

'BeLie' has a great swagger as it cleverly mixes mellow and heavy sections with the guitar solo hitting you between the ears after an effective mid-song breakdown. 'World Gone Colder' has a Sons Of Apollo feel to it, while 'Detonate' again puts me in mind of Talisman with its strong riff and melody. 'Torn' takes the intensity down a few notches as the band deliver a Melodic Rock gem as if to validate my point about Soto's versatility.

'Dance With The Devil' is heavy and melodic, whereas 'AfterGlow' is a feisty affair that includes stabs of brass amidst the crunching riffage. 'Vanity Lane' is quintessential Soto as it features a catchy melody and an infectious chorus that quickly invades your subconscious, while Salan's guitar solo stays just the right side of widdle. 'Give It To Me' rounds out the set in fine fashion; a slow, brooding opening and verses lay the platform for a chorus that bursts forth gloriously.

Not that I expected anything less, but Soto and his fellow musicians have delivered the goods once again – fans of his work won't be disappointed.
