With music like this, you can see why Crazy Lixx find themselves in such high demand to play festivals worldwide.

Sweden's Crazy Lixx return with studio album number six which arrives two years on from the critically acclaimed 'Ruff Justice' and the successful re-release of their first three records last year. Founded in 2002, the Malmö-based group have grown in stature and quality with each release despite coping with various personnel changes. The current line-up contains two founder members in Danny Rexon (vocals) and Joel Cirera (drums) who are ably supported by the twin guitars of Chrissie Olsson and Jens Lundgren alongside bassist Jens Sjoholm. With production duties falling on Rexon's shoulders – although he has had the assistance of the in-demand Chris Laney (Laney's Legion, Scratch) – the band have gone for a huge sound befitting the 21st century, albeit with its roots firmly planted in the mid-eighties.

'Wicked' blasts off with a great "Woah! Woah!" thumping riff and soaring sound which will get you in the mood for the rest of the album. What is noticeable is how clean it comes across and it's certainly reminiscent of the multi-million-dollar productions from the eighties. 'Silent Thunder' has an anthemic quality with blazing guitars and Rexon's stunning vocal; it's possibly one of Crazy Lixx's finest ever tracks.

'Eagle' is one of the slower songs where the guitar style pays homage to their Nordic roots, even crossing into Nightwish territory in parts yet still keeping the group's own identity. It's good that they have the confidence to showcase different styles. The tempo varies slightly across all the tracks and this keeps the mix of songs fresh throughout. Even the ballad 'Love Don't Live Here Anymore' fits in and it could easily have been snatched from classic era Bon Jovi (in a good way I might add).

'Forever Wild' cements Crazy Lixx's position alongside H.e.a.t and Eclipse as the front-runners of the Swedish Hard Rock scene. They have produced an opus chock-full of high-quality tracks which are brimming with massive riffs and huge choruses that are all topped off with a deep, crisp production; 'Forever Wild' clearly surpasses anything they have released to date. It's an album that on every listen a new song becomes my favourite. The mature feel of the song-writing shows how the band have grown and developed. This will be on my playlist for a long time – it has everything for fans old and new.
