If you fancy shutting the world out for an hour or two, these guys will sort you out.

Not to be confused with the Guns N' Roses loaded Velvet one, Bedford's Psychedelic supremo's Pearl Handled Revolver are a more permanent fixture, and 'Fantasy Reigns' is yet another smorgasbord of hypnotic and groove-soaked tuneage.

The rather chilling 'In Your Blood' kicks things off with an enjoyable and unnerving vibe; it's a track that is occasionally reminiscent of The Doors at their experimental best thanks to Lee Vernon's mischievous Jim Morrison-like vocal. Although it doesn't properly take off as you expect it to, the trippy shuffle of 'Machine Gun' still leaves you spellbound in your seat with its slow-burning rhythms and deep-rooted organ sounds.

If you enjoy getting an occasional soporific feeling from your music, then the early stages of 'Belly Of The Whale' will do just the job. It does indeed spark off some retro memories as you immediately think of classic Psychedelica like Jefferson Airplane, sixties Pink Floyd and a whippersnapper Black Sabbath. There's no denying that this is a group totally in tune with what they're doing. There's no sticking to a formula when it comes to the music of Pearl Handled Revolver, everything you hear has flowed directly out of their respective DNA. 'Something Going On Up There' has a drowsy Soul injection that fuses perfectly with the mellow tones. The spoken word of 'Petrol Skin' may initially be an oddball listen, but if you knock the lights off and whack back a snifter of Absinthe, then you may get much more out of it. The money shot comes with the uplifting and vigorous closer 'Raise Your Hand' which above any of the other tunes might appeal more to the non-believers.

I consider Pearl Handled Revolver to be the ultimate "mood" band; I wouldn't blast them out while eating up an open highway, but if you fancy shutting the world out for an hour or two, these guys will sort you out.
