An album that should be in every Melodic Rock fan's collection.

Swiftly succeeding their critically appreciated debut album 'Seize The Night' (digitally released in 2014 and physically in 2017), Greek duo Rain Or Shine have once again produced a meritorious opus full of riff-driven Melodic Hard Rock tracks that should gratify the vast majority of the 'Fireworks' and Rocktopia readership.

This talented pair comprise Steve S.R. (vocals, guitars, bass, synths and production duties) and Andy R. (drums, percussion), and together they impressively manufacture a vibe not dissimilar to the modern masters currently occupying the Scandinavian Melodic Rock scene. Within the song's parameters there are definite nods towards the likes of W.E.T., Treat, Eclipse and H.e.a.t. You may also hear glimpses of traditional Hair Metal traits made famous by Warrant, Skid Row, Danger Danger et al. Throw in a final ingredient reminiscent of early Gotthard, and you have an album that has enough melody, fortitude and variation to keep those toes tapping and heads banging.

The opening salvo of the title-track and the impressive 'Top Of The World' set the standards eminently high; supported by a pounding rhythm section, the abundant guitar riffing and spasmodic solos capture the essence of Melodic Hard Rock. If these two songs excite you, then you're in for a treat (pardon the pun) as 'We All Back Down' and 'Into The Storm' continue the trend. You should always keep in mind that this outfit consists of no more than a duo, and despite the production/mixing being a tad compressed and not as polished as the aforementioned Scandinavian artists (possibly due to my copy being a download), there is much to be enjoyed throughout the entirety of this release.

'New Love', 'Around The Corner' and 'Shot Of Life' rein in the tempo somewhat, but the melodies increase significantly, thus allowing Steve S.R.'s non-accented vocals to blossom. The emotive 'Where Are You Now?', the anthemic 'Back On Track' and the classy, prophetic final cut 'We Only Live Once' slow proceedings down even further, but none could be classed as a ballad per se.

Come rain or shine, 'The Darkest Part Of Me' is an album that should be in every Melodic Rock fan's collection. It has the songs, the intensity, the verve and the melodies to place it firmly in the second echelon when it comes to the pantheon of bands we are already familiar with. Give it a chance, I think you'll enjoy it.
