Bowling For Soup - Sheffield Corporation (UK) - October 21st, 2010.

As I'm getting older I find going to gigs at places like Sheffield's Corporation not as easy as it used to be. It's not the biggest of venues and the velcro effect on your feet when you walk across the floor makes you feel like you are walking underwater with diving boots on. So I'm surprised that BFS wanted to be here, rather than a larger venue. As the night went on however, I think I worked it out.

The evening started with the Dollyrots, a band fronted by an attractive female singer who had a little too squeaky voice for me, but generally speaking nobody else seemed to mind, and they did a decent, rocked up cover of Melanie's 'Brand New Key.' Next up were Forever The Sickest Kids, who I had never heard of before, but judging by the audience reaction they are fairly well known over here, and with their punchy, pop rock I found them quite entertaining. 'A' I have seen before at Download, and were probably the heaviest band on here tonight, and this was probably the best supporting cast BFS had brought with them so far.

The venue was heaving by the time Bowling For Soup came out, so much so that condensation was dripping from the roof in a very short time. And that's why these guys like to play the smaller venues, as the band and audience end up wearing each other before the night is out. Every song in the set was greeted with the same enthusiasm, old favourites 'The Bitch Song,' 'Girl All The Bad Guys Want' and '1984,' (which seems to have become the crowd favourite), cover of Bon Jovi's 'You Give Love A Bad Name' and 'A Really Cool Dance Song,' from the latest album. We even got a brand new song 'Friends/Chicks/Guitars,' which has been available as a free download on their website. Everybody knew all the words when Jarret stopped singing, and a young lady was invited on stage during 'Ohio' to 'shake her ass,' which she did very well before discarding her skirt, to cries of 'Strip, strip, strip' (she didn't). Part of the light show was controlled by an audience member and, as usual with every BFS show, you felt like you were at a massive party. And everyone loves a good party, don't they?
