A very engaging album that takes many listens before it lets you into it's secrets.

I lost track of keyboard wiz Daniele Liverani after his three part 'Genius Rock Opera' came to an end, and until now Ihad been unaware of his work with Twin Spirits. Thankfully those nice people over at Lion Music sent me this new album by the band and I have realised that I have been missing out on some very interesting progressive metal music. As this is the third album by the band I cannot comment on what the first two releases sound like, but if they are only half as good as 'Legacy' then when I buy them I'm in for a bit of a treat.

'Legacy' is basically a two part CD, the first half is made up of six tracks that are quite short for a prog album but are still filled with intricate guitar and keyboard workouts, plus the commanding vocal presence of Goran Nystrom. The second half, which clocks in at a more respectable prog time limit of twenty-nine minutes, is called 'The Endless Sleep Suite', and it is about a man who dies prematurely and then finds out after his death that he had an important role to play in the future of mankind. The story then tells of how he meets a higher power that decides to give him a second chance, this chance being to come back to life and change things for the better. During his time back on Earth he meets his parents once again and tries to help them to come to terms with his passing and to tell them that he is only back until his mission has been fulfilled, other parts of the suite deal with his relationship with the entity that is giving him the second chance and also how his own feelings have been affected by his untimely death.

'The Endless Sleep' is a complex, clever and dramatic piece of music. Beautifully constructed and played, the music holds your attention from start to finish and never lets your mind wander. Liverani and his musical cohorts have put together a very engaging album that takes many listens before it lets you into it's secrets, though when those secrets open up you will find a very, very good melodic prog metal album hiding behind the door.
