I love this album.

'Fall From Grace' is the second album by Canadian band Borealis, and with this new album they've taken a giant leap forward in the melodic power metal genre. Straight away what struck me about this release was the more complex song writing, plus the controlled anger and rage that the band have poured into each and every riff, melody and hook that populates this album. This musical anger immediately made me think of bands like Evergrey and Tad Morose mixed with Pagan's Mind and Symphony X, yet underlying all this angst, Borealis also brought to mind a very heavy Harem Scarem, especially in the melody department. Yet the sheer force of Borealis's own identity overpowers these comparisons and then fuses them together with their own personality, propelling the band's own forcefulness along at a rapid pace.

That is also why I can tell you that with 'Fall From Grace' Borealis have recorded what, for me, is easily one of the best melodic power metal albums that I have heard this year, or for that matter quite a few others besides. Title track 'Fall From Grace' is a prime example of what I'm talking about, hard hitting with a monster riff and a hookline to die for, the song conjures up the power of early Europen power metal mixed with Symphony X, but Borealis have such a strong presence that I use these comparisons as starting point's because as you listen to this band rattle through their songs, you can hear a group who have what can only be described as an arsenal of killer songs and an attitude to back them up. 'Where We Started' follows, and again this song strikes you like a hammer blow, big guitars, pile driving drums and a fantastic hookline all gel to make this a power metal masterpiece, yes I do think that the tracks on this album are that good, and with the likes of 'Regeneration' with it's blistering guitar solo, the cracking heartfelt ballad 'Watch The World Collapse', that features a wonderful vocal from Matt Marinelli, the brilliant hard hitting 'Forgotten Forever', which finishes the album off in fine style, and the explosive 'Words I Failed To Say', give you a band who should and will challenge their European metal counterparts for the coveted power metal crown.

Played at volume this album and it's songs batter you into submission, yet still leave you wanting more. Heavy? Yes! Melodic? Definitely! Enjoyable and exciting? You betcha! Borealis and Lion Music have a belter of an album on their hands, so do yourselves a favour and get in on the act, because Borealis are going to make a big impact on the power metal genre - that's if there is any justice in the world. Love this album.
