An excellent metal album and maybe the finest so far from one of the best front men in the business.

The charismatic Sebastian Bach is best known as the former singer of Skid Row and the band released 3 studio albums between 1989 and 1996, when Bach left the band. Since then he has kept himself busy with producing, song writing and appearing on Broadway and in television shows. He also released a live record in 1999 called 'Bring Em Bach Alive' and a covers album 'Bach To Basics' in 2001. His first studio release of new material titled 'Angel Down' came out in 2007 to a great reception. Bach now returns with his latest offering assisted by Nick Sterling on all guitars and Bobby Jarzombek on drums. 'Kicking & Screaming' is released on 23rd September 2011 on Frontiers Records.

Bach opens with the title track 'Kicking And Screaming', which does seem somewhat apt for his character. This is a raucous and boisterous affair with a very infectious chorus and kicks off the release perfectly. There is plenty more in that vein such as 'Dancing On Your Grave' and 'One Good Reason' which is probably the highlight track of the album. Most of the thirteen songs offered are of the faster variety, although the heaviness and vocals do vary from number to number. 'Dream Forvever' is a much more melodic hard rock track whereas 'Dirty Power' is an all out assault on the ears from the lead six string. Seb Bach also shows his softer side on this album with two ballads. First up mid album there is the power ballad 'I'm Alive' before Bach opts to close out with the mellowest track of all, which is the radio friendly 'Wishin'.

Anyone who has a love of Seb Bach, whether it be his solo material or the Skid Row era, will lap this album up. In fact anyone who adores sleazy grinding riffs delivered with a large dollop of attitude and a healthy portion of aggression, will adore this album. This is without doubt one for all the Skid Row, Motley Crue and Guns & Roses fans. Bach is on superb form vocally and gives maybe his best performance yet, although he has toned down the sonic screech for some of the tracks. But fear not, on the likes of 'One Good Reason' the old hostile and screaming Bach can be heard. Musically the songs are of a high calibre and although not instantly memorable on the first listen, do worm their way quickly into your mind. Overall the album is a notch up on the heaviness scale from the previous offering 'Angel Down'. Sterling puts in an excellent and energetic performance on both the bass and the lead guitar, whilst Jarzombek provides great driving rhythm on the drums.

What stands out is the production on this release, which was well handled by Bob Marlette. It is wonderfully crisp, and despite the constant raucous guitars and ear splitting wails and grunts from Bach, everything comes across clear and perfectly audible. Overall this is an excellent metal album and maybe the finest so far from one of the best front men in the business.
