A  no nonsense, fast moving, dangerous living album.

If you were wondering what style of music Stoney Curtis and his band play, then you need look no further than the first song on the band's second release 'Cosmic Conn3ction', which is simply and accurately titled 'Blues & Rock 'n' Roll'. Coming together nearly ten years ago, this power trio consisting of Curtis himself on guitar and vocals, Aaron Haggerty on drums and Steve Evans on bass have spent the majority of their time perfecting their craft in Los Angelis and Las Vegas clubs, pausing only to record their debut album in 2005 and take a short trek through Europe. That time spent sharpening their live skills certainly seems to have paid dividends when you hear how remarkably tight they are as they brandish their sharp, heavy blues licks in our direction. That aptly christened opening song is also a great benchmark for the raucous riffing and thumping beats that make for some classy, good time rock 'n' roll.

Curtis is straight out of the Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jeff Healey, Joe Bonamassa school of guitar, where mighty riffs are punctuated by little inspired motifs and licks which keep his fret work sounding fresh and full of spark. Vocally he may not have the purest of voices, but the full throated yowl adds to the air of authenticity that the SCB seem to be able to inspire at the drop of a hat. Full on numbers like the sweatbox of 'Soul Flower', which certainly isn't as sedate as its name suggests, the updated Hendrix histrionics of 'The Devil Knows Your Dead' and the mighty stompin', funkin' thwack of 'Mouthful Of Honey' really are infectiously good fun, leaving you grinning almost as widely as this trio must have been when they recorded the songs in the first place. The more overtly down on your luck blues of 'The Letter' and 'Infatuation Blues' bring a more restrained, if no less guitar infused slant to an album that is often foot to the floor stuff, proving that Stoney knows how to manage the pace and allow everyone to have a little breather before the next shit kicking stomp shatters through your speakers. There's no doubt that the guitar's the star on 'Cosmic Conn3ction', or that Stoney Curtis is the main musical and vocal focus of the album. However Evans and Haggerty provide a satisfying substantial base from which their mainman is given the room to fly off in various directions spurting out axe work of the highest order, with 'Big Beautiful Women' being the perfect grooving example.

'Cosmic Conn3ction' is a no nonsense, fast moving, dangerous living album, that arrives in a whirlwind blur of guitar that never quite spits you out until the very last note, leaving you suitably dishevelled and invigorated as it departs.
