A superb female fronted metal fest of great songs, superb riffs and delicious vocals.

'Foresting Wounds’ is the debut album from Agnieszka Gorecka otherwise known as Nera. She is also the singer for Polish metal band Darzamat. This project was started back in 2009 and is being described as an outlet for her views and beliefs. The album has been pitched as atmospheric rock but metal would be a better term. The band is made up of Nera and her fellow Darzamat members including Krzysztof Michalak (guitars), Marek Tkocz (bass) and Maciej Kowalski (drums).

From the opening track ‘Shattered’ it is clear that this album is something different.Effect-filled vocals mixed with a plodding bass precede an all out assault on the senses once the guitar arrives. The album grabs you right from the off with this blistering number and doesn’t let up right up to the end, assuming the listener can resist the urge to continually listen to track one. Some offerings on ‘Foresting Wounds’ are very much of the metal variety like ‘Broken’ and ‘Scar’.But even on the heavier tracks with the music ripping a storm, Nera’s voice is still the centre point. The album offers some more melodic tracks such as the single release ‘Precious Now’ and ‘Women’s Soul’ which opens with a very Satriani-like effect on the guitar.Along with the opener, the other highlight track is ‘Oblivion’ which arrives in the middle of the album.Futuristic guitar is followed by a floor cracking deep riff and more soaring vocals from Nera.

This is a stunning album and a delightful surprise. It is packed with wonderful vocals and some amazing riffs but also sounds deliciously crisp. Some people may well read the promotional material and feel it is too obscure. Others will see the title and expect this to be death metal. But this album is neither! It is very different from anything else currently released in any female fronted genres. It’s a glorious mixture of atmospheric, riff fuelled metal and more dream like melodic rock. One of the surprises is how simple it all is from the uncomplicated music to the understated vocals.Nera Nature gives more emotion in a four minute song as some bands manage in a whole album. This release has one focus and that is her glorious voice.Nera is excellently supported by the other members of the band. Michalak on the guitar especially shines during this release. The production is perfect throughout and it only adds to the fresh feel of the album.

This is without doubt one for fans of all rock and metal from across the spectrum, especially female fronted enthusiasts. It may not grab everyone from the very first listen, but try it a few times and it will get its hooks deep into you.In short this is a superb female fronted metal fest of great songs, superb riffs, delicious vocals and an all round pleasure. However this album may seriously impair your ability to listen to anything else for a week
