A pop/rock fan's wet dream.

Stala & So were first formed back in 1997 but commitments to the members' other acts forced the band to be put on hold until now. Stala was once the drummer in Lordi and after he left that band, decided that it was high time that Stala & So were resurrected. So the band re-grouped and entered the Finnish Eurovision Song Competition, made it to the live final and played to a TV audience of over a million viewers (they didn't win). They then set about recording their album 'Is It So', though if your expecting the metal of Lordi, you will I'm afraid be sadly disappointed because instead of the pantomime costumed music of his previous band Stala and his compatriots play more in the way of catchy, hard rock/pop songs, than the metal he is better known for.

That's perhaps not surprising when they list Bowie, T-Rex and The Sweet as major influences. And with tracks like 'Bye Bye', 'Got To Believe', 'Shout' with it's UFO like guitar riff and big hook, the very catchy 'One Night Stand', the sophisticated piano lead 'Won't Let You Down' or 'She' with its memorable pop rock chorus, the band prove that even with an almost fourteen year gap, they still have a lot to offer. However, I would suggest that trying to market yourselves as a glam band, by dressing up as five middle aged drag queens (check the cover of the album) isn't going to encourage sales amongst the Fireworks readership: though could well appeal to a younger generation! 'Is It So' is therefore an album that as the old adage goes - should not be judged by its cover because Stala & So have a much better CD on their hands than this suggests, 'Is It So' is an album that is full of great musicianship, has a warm resonant production and -- well - just some fantastic rocking tunes.
If you're a fan of the new the new breed of Scandi hair rock, have a penchant for the likes of Crash Diet, Reckless Love and Crazy Lixx and like your music straightforward with tons of melody, then Stala & So could be right up your alley, as they have made an album that could be a pop/rock fan's wet dream.
