Lightweight melodic rock from experienced songwriting duo.

Fab Box is the brainchild of Fabrizzio Ugolini (ex-Revenge) and multi-instrumentalist, producer/artist Massimo Bozzi, who have been together as a songwriting partnership for ten years now. They share a love for artists like Toto, Journey, Bryan Adams etc, and have written with and for the likes of Danny Vaughn and Joseph Williams. They decided to celebrate their tenth anniversary by writing some songs together in the style of their musical heroes and ‘Music From The Fab Box’ is the result.

Fab Box have made an album of what I would describe as breezy westcoast pop, and it reminded me of a lighter Mark Spiro around his ‘King Of The Crows’/’Mighty Blue Ocean’ period, mixed with a little bit of Richard Marx. ‘Music From The Fab Box’ is the kind of album that I also found great for putting on and chilling to at the end of a long day. The songs aren’t there to tax you in any way by making you fight for their meaning, they are just very pleasant songs about love and life that you can dip in and out of at your discretion.

I would like to draw your attention to a few of the albums tracks if I may, ‘I Still Believe’, a song that is very remminiscent of AOR (the band), is a wonderful heartfelt ballad, ‘Tell Her I’m Alright’, which is probably one of the most rocky cuts on the album, and ‘Reason Of The Heart’, which is catchy as hell. Also, the superb ‘Together’ co-written with Joseph Williams, and ‘Always’, co-written by Danny Vaughn, which again is a nice little rocker (but not a patch on Danny’s version), and closing track ‘Eres Mi Vida’ sung by Fracis Benitez, which is a lovely heartfelt ballad.

I’ve got to say that this album came as a bit of a nice surprise for me because when I saw the name of the band and the cover of the CD (both of which I’m sorry to say are terrible!), I wasn’t expecting very much. Fab Box though, using that old adage “Don’t judge a book by it’s cover”, proved me wrong. So, if you fancy some subtle, light westcoast songs you could do worse than give Fab Box a try, because at the end of a busy day I found them a very enjoyable listen.
