Title

Lana Lane has returned with her most sophisticated and complete album to date.

Now this review is going to be a little biased and you may ask why? Well it’s because out of all the female rock singers that I have loved, watched and admired over the years, it is Lana Lane - whom since I first heard her - has been the one that has always done it for me. The passion, power, feeling and emotion that she pours into each and every song and performance she gives, has always sent a shiver right down the back of my neck, which then makes me want to hear something more from this great chanteuse.

So thankfully after almost four years away from the music scene Lana returns with the follow up to ‘Red Planet Boulevard’, the intriguingly titled ‘El Dorado Hotel’ which is fast becoming her best album to date in my humble opinion. Lana is joined once again by husband Eric Norlander who has again written for her another complex, clever yet easily accessible prog rock masterpiece. ‘A Dream Full Of Fire’ starts proceedings and within its eight minutes plus of music, you have everything that is great and good about Lana’s music: passionate, emotionally strong performances but above all else a song that draws you into it’s web and ensnares you, refusing to let go until it has finished. ‘El Dorado’ is a song with an ethereal quality to it, haunting vocals from Lana again invade the senses and the track leaves its mark on you long after it has finished playing.

The laid back ‘Hotels’ is one of those songs that Lana and her band excel at, a light piano and acoustic guitar refrain are joined with a superb vocal melody and the cut is as near to perfection as you can get, the use of a synthesized trumpet during the song is also a stroke of genius. ‘Believe’ is the kind of crossover hard rock, prog track that Lana does with such consummate ease, a killer chorus a clever use of auto tune on some vocal lines and a powerful arrangement make this the standout track of the album. ‘Gone Are The Days’ and ‘Moon God’ follow and continue the Lana Lane legacy of magical songs, both having massive hooks and amazing musicianship in abundance. Lastly we have the almost twelve minutes of ‘In Exile’ which is really two songs in one. The track starts slowly and builds over the first eight minutes or so until it drops into silence, only to explode back into life which ends in an all out keyboard and guitar prog fest battle.

Lana Lane has returned with her most sophisticated and complete album to date, a CD with intelligent songs, amazing musicianship and a voice to die for which in the end is all you can ask for. All that is left to say is WOW!
