This is not great. Not by a long way.

Lester is involved in the ‘Southern Legends Live!’ show; he wears a stetson and he peddles just the Country/Blues fodder you'd expect. It certainly has a laidback, Bluesy feel, which can be beguiling, so after we pass the workmanlike cover of ‘Somebody To Love’, Lester's deep sourmash vocals and a variety of answering female foils edge these early tracks in front of some of the opposition.

Sometimes it can tread on the toes of the modern Blues Rockers like Popa Chubby, but the South always annoyingly rises again once a groove is established. It's all a bit like an example of musical style rather than a real collection of songs, as the title track moves from Blues to Country with a psychedelic middle to confound our expectations. It doesn't. And neither does ‘Sucka’ which tends to slap you round the face and then run off crying rather than stand toe to toe and convince you of its brilliance.

But when track 8 of 11 arrives, something happens. They start to get brave. ‘Can't Stop This’ wheels in a lathe, cranks up a few chains and uncorks an almost industrial riff, whilst adding eye-liner and velvet in the chorus for an undeniably Goth feel. It's a surprise. But not as much as follow-up ‘Save Me’ which has both the skittish funky backing and then open chorus of a standard Red Hot Chilli track. And so it is less of a surprise when the cover of ‘Love Is The Drug’ rolls up, a horn section jumps out and they run around all over your cochlea with funky abandon.

This is not great. Not by a long way. In fact, although some will love a Country/Blues sound which is very much du jour, but often it can resemble a lazy ZZ Top; like Billy Gibbons just said “sod it; let's make 'El Loco' again.” Only when Lester takes chances does this get off the conveyor belt; hopefully his background won’t mitigate against further experimentation. If only we were blindsided more often here.
