A Rocktopia user review written by Speedy Hicks.

Finally after what seems like a lifetime, the much anticipated new album from Heaven and Hell ( Black Sabbath in all but name ). 10 tracks of doom and gloom crunching riffs and Dio's awesome vocals. Although we got 3 new studio tracks on the 2007 compilation “ The Dio Years” in all honesty they never set the world on fire.
The hype surrounding the release of this record was printed in every rock mag the world over, the band could do no wrong, that is until you actually buy it and then play it. “Atom and Evil” is such a weak opening track, although head crushingly heavy with a slow sludgy tempo it just never kicks into life, the whole album has this theme running through it with just depression and boggy slow riffs going on and on and on. We do get 3 faster tracks that is vintage material. “Eating the Cannibals” is a huge song that crashes along like a train. First single “Bible Black” must be contender for best song written since reforming “Nevermore”, again lets people know what they are capable of once they put their foot down, with a hooky chorus and one hell of vocal performance. The band members cant be questioned regarding their abilities as they are some of the finest in this genre of music, what must be questioned is the need to have so many songs that never get out of first gear.

I think Speedy Hicks makes some really good points here about the new album by heaven and hell.
He clearly has a real ear for this kind of music, can appreciate when a band makes a good tune and when they dont quite cut it with still a huge admiration for them. I would love to see more reviews by speedy smilies/smiley.gif
