A massive melodic rock gem.

Blown away, that’s the only way I can describe how I felt after hearing the debut album from the band known as Oxygen. The four men who are involved on this CD are all from Sweden (naturally), they play a highly entertaining mixture of melodic rock and AOR, which reminded me a lot of the early days of the 80’s rock scene. Glory, Talk Of The Town, Europe, Alien and Bad Habit all sprang to mind as this album played, the songs coming across as a heady brew of all that is best in Scandi melodic rock. However, what really made the songs and music stand out for me were the vocals of Tony Niva (ex-Lion’s Share, Axia) who has put the more metal aspect of his past to one side and has now embraced the melodic rock genre with open arms. His vocals on ‘Final Warning’ are simply amazing, and he comes across like the long lost brother of Tony Harnell, Jim Jidhead and Rob Moratti; Mr Niva should therefore really be more well known than I fear he is. So superb vocals joined together with eleven catchy as hell songs, a big production and some wonderful musicianship, makes ‘Final Warning’ (for me at least) the best album of its type released this year.

Not I not convinced you yet? Then just put the CD into your stereo sit back and be prepared for around thirty odd minutes of hard rock perfection. ‘Anything For You’, ‘Janitor Of Love’ and ‘When Tomorrow Never Comes’ start proceedings and these first three songs leave your jaw firmly fixed to the floor as their wonderful melodic catchy as hell choruses hit you like a sledgehammer and literally knock you to the ground with their power. Doesn’t stop there though as the two ballads ‘I Remember’ and ‘You’ have it all, stunning emotional vocals, great arrangements that tug at the heart strings and superb musicianship. And at this point I would like to introduce Oxygen’s secret weapon, guitarist Roger Ljunggren who is fantastic to say the least. His fluid riffs and clever solos give the songs a much harder edge than you would usually expect on this type of album and because of this the tracks are even more memorable. So back to the songs ‘Gold From The Future’ rocks (nuff said), ‘Best Days Of Our Lives’ is short and to the point, it has the best vocal of the album, where the emotion filled, soaring voice of Mr. Niva is wondrous. Finishing with ‘Bring Back The Joy’ Oxygen end on a massive high, as the song kicks some proverbial bottom as it races along, brilliant!

Yeah I’ve gushed but I think this album is that damn good. So any reader of Fireworks worth their salt should grab a copy of this album at once. Escape Music have released what can only be described as a MASSIVE melodic rock gem. Now any chance of getting them to play at Firefest???
