Title

A very accomplished piece of work.

Whilst TV talent shows in the UK throw up (and I mean that literally) a plethora of ballad heavy, forgettable clones, Europe seems to revel in people who can get their teeth around decent rock and metal tunes. One such contestant was Anders Wigelius, who did a bang up job on Swedish show True Talent. He came to the attention of producer Daniel Flores, and soon after Wigelius the (awkwardly named) band was born.

So it’s a bit of a pasted together group, sure, but at least Anders’ brother Erik is on drums. The main man is only in his early twenties, and the aim here has been to put together a pretty, young, talented band so that people other than old AOR fuddy duddys will want to hear and see more of them. A fine ambition, but step one has to always be the music itself, and although the press release states Anders does write songs, there’s no mention at all of who provided the twelve tracks on offer. Thankfully, whoever had their greasy paw in the songwriting bucket did a good job, and as a result Wigelius the band sail over the first potential hurdle.

As an album, ‘Reinventions’ doesn’t, ironically, reinvent anything. There’s no attempt to be bold or brash, just to lay down an album of quality AOR and see who bites. There’s upbeat, guitar driven fist punchers such as opener ‘Angeline’ and ‘Piece Of The Action’, a fantastic ballad in the shape of ‘Love Can Be That Much’, and plenty more besides. It’s no surprise that Wigelius has a great voice, very much suited to AOR, and Flores’ production allows him to shine whilst also allowing Jake Svenson to keep things flowing with a faultless performance on guitar that compliments the songs as well as beef them up with some very nice solos.

Although not quite up there with the best, Wigelius’ debut is a very accomplished piece of work that will find favour with anyone who likes their AOR well crafted and catchy but with a few brass balls tucked away for emergency use. There’s really nothing to dislike about ‘Reinventions’, and with any luck the name of Anders Wigelius will be around for some time, hopefully singing the same sort of music.

Hi Alan!
Thank you for this great review!!

All the songs are written by Anders and Eric. We're already in the process of writing new material where Jake also is co-writing.
We’re all friends from the past having a blast doing this together now!
All the best!
Wigelius
