Title

There is something here for everyone who appreciates well written rock music.

It’s almost three years since 4Bitten gave us their ‘No More Sins’ release so it could be argued that ‘Delirium’ their latest offering is more than a little overdue. Their career began with a song on a Kiss tribute album before recording ‘No More Sins’ their debut album released in 2009. Successful support tours with such acts as Michael Schenker and Uriah Heep established the band on the live circuit where they built up a following. Still fronted by dynamic singer Fof Roussos who learned her trade in the United States club circuit, the band mix a interesting blend of Alice in Chains, Led Zeppelin and Janis Joplin.

‘Burning the Candle’ kicks in with full velocity and a contemporary sound; but this is not at the cost of the melody. Roussos has a voice that is both soulful yet capable of injecting a certain venom when needed. The band clearly has a well defined sound that certainly delivers punch especially in the rhythm department as ‘Jaded’ proudly displays. The song has a strong chorus and machine gun drums that deliver right to the jugular. However, the band can just as easily throw you curve ball and take a more traditional old school blues rock sound not unlike St.Jude with a song like ‘Let it Burn’ and still bring the house down.

It’s clear the band have many strings to their bow and this gives ‘Delirium’ a good measure of diversity, from the AOR Unruly Child style of ‘Live 4 Today’ to a song such as ‘A Different Fate’ that brought to my mind Rival Sons. I especially enjoyed ‘Far From Grace’ a song where its strength lies in its simplicity, both melodically and in its heartfelt lyrics and with a well-executed guitar solo that hits the spot.

If there is a negative to be mentioned its that at times it sounds like two different bands, from the more metal rock sound that just comes crashing out the garage to the more commercially accessible offerings such as ‘Tomorrow Never Comes’ a song that has a strong blues groove. In truth I feel there is something here for everyone who appreciates well written rock music and I would imagine the band’s level of diversity could bring in a wider audience which is no bad thing.
4Bitten are clearly a band just waiting to find their place on the music scene and that cannot be far away if this release is anything to go by.
