This band can only go from strength to strength, give them a try.

A couple of years ago a group of well know musicians, Daniel Flores, Johan Niemann of Mind’s Eye, Daniel Palmqvist of Crash The System and Andreas Lindahl decided to move away from the more usual type of music they played (progressive metal), and try their hand at something they described as Cinematic Metal. They brought in singer Angelica Rylin a young lady blessed with a strong voice not a million miles away from that of Within Temptation’s Sharon Den Adel, and the rest as they say is history. The album itself was full of overblown melodic metal songs, forceful arrangements and fantastic musicianship that were joined with the sultry vocals of Miss Rylin. Fast forward a couple of years and the band have undergone a few changes, now only two original members are left with Angelica and Daniel returning and joining up with new boys Teddy Westlund and Christopher Vetter who take up the bass and guitar duties respectively. Thankfully those are the only changes to report because the music on this album is as good as anything on the debut and in places much better if truth be told.

So onto the music ‘Fallen’ is the kind of track I love, layers of synths dominate the song, with the guitar riff subtly underpinning the melody, a melody that joins with the powerful vitality of Angelica’s vocal which drives the song to its climax. ‘I Dare You’ has a kind of After Forever and Within’ Temptation attitude running through it, though it never becomes a clone of those bands, rather TMOMS take some of the style and substance of those acts, which they re-work to come up with something uniquely their own. ‘Meant To Last Forever’ is a big production number, that starts with Angelica’s empathic vocals telling of love found and lost, this solo voice then being joined with multiple vocal harmonies, dramatic keyboards and clever guitar work that compliments the song until its end. ‘Kind Of Lousy’ has pop rock mainstream crossover potential, catchy, instantly memorable and with a fantastic solo this could be a hit, which could also be said for the track ‘The One’; again it’s a metal pop rock track with more great musicianship and a really passionate vocal from Miss Rylin. ‘Black September’ and ‘Phantom Pain’ end the album, though they are slightly different from the rest. Darker and heavier than the earlier songs, with some progressive overtones running through each, they come across as Nightwish meeting Epica and The Murder of My Sweet in a fight and TMOMS coming out the winners. That these songs fit easily with the rest of the album shows just how good they are and how good the rest of the album is.

I loved the debut album ‘Divanity’, I love ‘Bye Bye Lullaby’ and I think that this band can only go from strength to strength, give them a try.
