Title

Just fine Hard Rock songs which demand nothing from you but enjoyment.

These Buckinghamshire bangers favoured us with their debut, ‘Get Your Hands Dirty’, in 2010. It was an unreconstructed slice of good-time Hard Rock; a party was definitely taking place. Well, compared to this album, last time they arrived early, hung around the kitchen, spoke to your cousin and her weird friend and left on the stroke of midnight. Because this is just so much more! This time they arrive fashionably late, barrel through the patio doors, shouting, waving a bottle of Jack and a bag of some kind of powder, then set up camp in the middle of the room organising drinking races and snogging the face off Mandy. You know, the one you wanted.

And you can't help but love them for it. This is a rush of adrenaline, with no thought for anything else but enjoyment. The title track has a dumb riff with snake-hipped swagger which makes way for a soaring chorus and a thoroughly enjoyable hard-edged solo.

But this is just the beginning; ‘Less Torque, More Thrust’ ends with a laugh, which if you'd just experienced being slapped all over with tumbling drums, swaddled in rough-hewn vocals, punched lightly in the solar plexus by a shitkicking solo then taken by the hand to your favourite group of friends all shouting the chorus, you may do too.

Best here are probably the softer ‘Something God About This Girl’ which has the bratty certainly of Melodic Rock and ‘Sunshine’ which pays a toll to Raven, Spider and the other Charons of NWOBHM, then decides it wants to return on a big, sexy chorus as Stapleton and Dow solo widdlingly into the night. But pushing it close are the complete surprise of ‘Never Gonna Give It Up’, an AOR rocker with all the cheese and heartfelt contemplation you would expect but the energy to run the 100 metres and then the marathon too, whereas ‘Side Of The Road’ shows all that keeness in a rapid riff fest, with added handclaps to ensure we don't forget the groove.

It's not all brilliant, the closer is just the lead off track with added Udo, but it mostly is. And that's rare. Good, uncluttered production from Dan Weller, (recorded at Ian Paice's abode), no virtuoso performances, just fine Hard Rock songs which demand nothing from you but enjoyment.

Pack a sou’wester, this rain is going to last for more than 40 days and nights.
