Live CD/DVD package by the U.S.A.'s answer to AC/DC.

Often viewed as the U.S.A.’s answer to AC/DC due to their no-frills brand of rock’n’roll, Kix arrived on the scene in 1981 with their self-titled debut album, with two more albums following in the next four years, ‘Cool Kids’ and ‘Midnite Dynamite’. However, it wasn’t until 1988 that the band really broke into the big-time with the platinum selling ‘Blow My Fuse.’ ‘Hot Wire’ was a similar success, but by the time ‘Show Business’ appeared in 1995 the musical climate had changed, and Kix called it quits.

In 2003 the line-up of Steve Whiteman (vocals), Jimmy Chalfant (drums) Ronnie Younkins and Brian Forsythe (guitars) re-formed, but founding member and main song-writer Donnie Purnell elected not to be involved, so bass playing duties fell to Mark Schenker. Since then they have been regulars on the U.S. gig circuit, including a well-received performance at the Rocklahoma festival. A brand new studio album is slated for release in 2013, but until then this live package will keep Kix fans happy.

It’s as rough and raw as they come, and about as close you can get to actually being at the gig without the sticky floors and someone spilling beer on you! Steve Whiteman interacts well with the fans (sometimes hilariously, sometimes cheesily, and sometimes very crude – which the crowd seem to love!), and while his voice isn’t great at times, it’s real and honest, and the rest of the band sound amazing. The set list is culled from the first five albums, and needless to say the majority of cuts are from the ‘Blow My Fuse’ album, such as ‘Cold Blood’ (complete with crowd sing-along), ‘No Ring Around Rosie’, the title track and the huge hit ‘Don’t Close Your Eyes’ which oddly appears very early on in the set, but strangely enough there is no room for ‘Get It While It’s Hot.’ Elsewhere there are the typical crowd-pleasers like ‘Cold Shower’, ‘Lie Like A Rug’, ‘Girl Money’ and ‘Kix Are For Kids’, before the set ends with the fan favourite ‘Yeah, Yeah, Yeah’ which clocks in at sixteen minutes thanks to Steve Whiteman’s ad-lib section.

The DVD of the show is not available as a promo so I can’t tell you too much about it, save for being much longer than the CD and adding more favourites like ‘The Itch’, ‘Sex’, ‘Hot Wire’ and ‘Same Jane’, and also includes a solo spot from each guitarist. I personally would have like it if they’d squeezed ‘Same Jane’ onto the CD as well, but if digital is your thing then you’ll get the additional songs as bonus tracks when you download anyway.
