There's little here not to like over the 95 minutes of music.

Last year saw two legends of rock reunite for a charity project named 'Who Cares'. The men in question were Sabbath guitarist Tony Iommi and Purple vocalist Ian Gillan, who previously had spent some time as Sabbath's vocalist on the, in my opinion, excellent 'Born Again' record. Gathering together some heavyweight support (Jon Lord, Nicko McBrain and Jason Newstead), they issued an original single called 'Out Of My Mind' backed with another original, 'Holy Water'. The idea was for money raised to go towards rebuilding of a music school in Armenia that Gillan and Iommi had visited.

To continue this theme, the two main protagonists have put together a double album sure to interest fans of both Purple and Sabbath, as well as rock fans in general. Comprised of an entertaining mix of new, old, unreleased and rare tracks from both men, there's enough on here to more than make your purchase of it worthwhile, benefit album or not. As well as the two original songs originally released, the album is fleshed out with a wide variety of goodies. There's stuff any self-respecting rock fan probably already has, but if you shirked Sabbath with Gillan, the inclusion of the classic 'Zero The Hero' might make you realise what you had missed. This is partnered with Gillan's re-cut of 'Trashed' from 'Gillans Inn' featuring Iommi on guitar backed by Purple's rhythm section of Paice and Glover. Gillan offers up some rarities in his own right including a great live version of 'When A Blind Man Cries' from an Absolute Radio session. You'll also find a hark back to Ian's days as a Javelin with his version of 'Can I Get A Witness' and a live version of 'No Laughing In Heaven' as his alter ego Garth Rockett. There’s some unreleased tracks such as 'Don't Hold Me Back' and a Repo Depo track, the excellent 'Easy Come, Easy Go.' For Purple fans, there is 'Dick Pimple' which featuring Gillan, Morse, Lord, Paice and Glover engaging in an enjoyable and excellent jam.

On the Iommi side of things, there's a nod to the Tony Martin era of Black Sabbath, with the classic 'Anno Mundi' and a couple of tracks from Iommi's 'Fused' sessions with Glenn Hughes on vocals. 'Slip Away' was previously only available digitally and this is bolstered with the inclusion of 'Let It Down Easy', a Japanese bonus track featuring Hughes in mind blowing form - it's a thunderous rocker and as far as I'm concerned, better than anything on the actual 'Fused' album itself.

All this, along with a track from the brilliant 'Accidentally On Purpose' album by Gillan and Glover, the version of 'Smoke On The Water' live from the Albert Hall with an orchestra featuring the late Ronnie Dio sharing vocal duties, and there's little here not to like over the 95 minutes of music. Sure, hardcore fans probably have some of it already, but this is a great way to gather up some truly worthwhile rarities while sending your money to a good cause at the same time.
