If there was any justice, this album would be massive. Fantastic!

Back in Fireworks #40, I had the task of conducting an interview with Ron Young, lead vocalist for one of my favourite bands, Little Caesar. A great group that played soulful classic rock, with nods to Motown as well as bands like Bad Company, Little Caesar made a couple of great albums for Geffen before their break up - a decision made due to disillusionment, as the band looked like a bunch of hairy tattooed bikers, right slap bang in the middle of the teased hair and lipstick MTV era. It was a time where image was more important than music, a fact summed up when Ron told me radio stations were only too happy to play Little Caesar's single… until they saw a photo of the band, then they lost interest.

The lunacy of men who looked like bikers being seen as weird compared to men wearing lipstick, eye liner, spandex and poodle perms aside, Little Caesar never really got their due, but to my delight, they reunited for a new album 'Redemption' in 2009 which was issued by the wise folks at Rock Candy, on their spin off label Grind That Axe. 'Redemption' saw Little Caesar making music how they wanted, with no record label interference. It was a good strong record and boded well.

Now, with little fanfare, Little Caesar bring out 'American Dream'. I bought it the second I heard about it, and the more I hear it, the more enamoured I have become. 'American Dream' feels like the album Little Caesar always wanted to make, and now free from any record label shackles, they've done exactly that. Every track on here is top drawer, from the pounding opener of 'Holy Roller' through to swampy album closer 'Dirty Water'. The band is fired up and Ron Young's smokey vocals sound as good as ever.

I find it really difficult to review an album I love as completely as this, because I feel like I've done a disservice to a song if I don't mention it, but I only have so many words per review! This album is chock full of quality, one of my favourites being 'Hard Rock Hell', where Ron's inimitable lyrics explore the music business candidly. Songs like this are nestled next to the emotional 'Only A Memory Away', the amusing 'Is Your Crazy Getting Lazy' and the rock and roll of 'The Girl's Rockin''.

The album is available digitally from iTunes or Amazon, or you can buy the CD from www.littlecaesar.net. I have played this album every day since I bought it and I’m still not bored of it. I think that this is by far best album Little Caesar has ever made. As Ron sings in the afore mentioned 'Hard Rock Hell' - 'when shit bands thrive and Bon Scott dies, there ain't no justice in the music world.' He's right, if there was any justice, this album would be massive. Fantastic!
