Saracen go blonde!

News is breaking that British symphonic rockers Saracen are well underway with a new concept album. Their previous release, in 2006, was a masterpiece of musical story-telling, chronicling the history of the Knights Templar. Their new opus, however, promises to be eons away in terms of its subject matter – namely, the life and times of that ultimate icon, Marilyn Monroe! This promises to be another top drawer release from Escape, and is sure to delight Saracen fans from around the globe.

Saracen keyboard wizard Paul Bradder explains; “This is a very exciting project for us. The speed with which it’s all coming together is breath-taking. We’re hoping it will ultimately be a product from the very same ‘Vox In Excelso’ winning-team...including the wonderful Mark Cross on drums...ace production from Sweden’s very own Martin Kronlund...and the executive expertise of Escape Music”.

We also tracked down Saracen axeman and writer Rob Bendelow, to check if there was any truth in the rumour that this album will also feature one, very special, American songstress?

Rob: “You better believe it...I’m delighted to say that the one-&-only Ms Robin Beck will be bringing her outrageous talent to this album! ‘Marilyn’ deals with the roller-coaster life, and death, of a true Hollywood superstar. Some of the songs tell their part of the story in Marilyn’s own words...hence the obvious need for female vocals. Imagine our excitement when we heard that the project and the individual songs appealed to Robin. The rest is, as they say, history. The tracks are presently only in ‘rough demo’ form, but here are a couple of clips. Working with Robin, and her partner-in-crime James Christian, has been an absolute delight”.

Saracen’s feminine side doesn’t end there. Richard Bendelow explains: “my duties, apart from playing bass, include doing the various layered vocal harmonies ‘around’ lead singer Steve. But for ‘Marilyn’ we’re also adding female harmonies courtesy of Karensa Kerr. Karensa is totally new to the rock scene, but an experienced stage-show performer. It's all sounding rather wonderful so far”.

So there we have it. A new Saracen album already well ‘out of the blocks’...based around a fascinating theme...with a very special guest list. The two clips here are from ‘Make This Body Work’ (Norma Jeane realising her potential as a model) and ‘Not For Sure’ (Marilyn expressing her feelings to JFK).

This album cannot come soon enough!
