An album choc full of emotion and groove.

‘Never judge a book by its cover’ no.617: once you get past the artwork of a woman in her skimpies as realised by a four-year-old, Eldorado’s third album ‘Antigravity Sound Machine’ is an extremely strong offering with nods to older, classic hard rock crossed with a bright punchy metal mix. Much of the praise – for the album, not the artwork – goes to producer Richard Chycki, who has not only imbued the songs with a freshness and excitement, but having worked with the quartet on their debut ‘En Busca De Eldorado’ encouraged the four natives of Madrid to write and sing their second album ‘Golden’ in English which made them a lot more accessible to a much wider audience.

But that’s not to take anything away from the songs themselves, or the individual performances of vocalist Jesus Trujilo, guitarist Andres Duende, bassist Cesar Snachez and drummer Javi Planelles. With the songs for ‘Antigravity Sound Machine’ pretty much written they found themselves waiting – for a good six months – for Chycki to complete work on Rush’s ‘Clockwork Angels’ so used the time to shape the material in front of live crowds and also to launch a (successful) pledge scheme to fund the recording, a brave move given the economic situation in Spain at the moment.

The result is an album choc full of emotion and groove; the songs are tight and – as the biog points out – have a timeless quality about them; they could have been written donkey’s years ago by the likes of Free and Bad Company, but equally can stand shoulder-to-shoulder today with the material being produced by, say, Rival Sons and The Union. Trujilo has a truly fabulous voice, and Duende is no slouch on guitar as the heart-rending solo on ‘Lady Of The Mountain’ easily demonstrates. Elsewhere, the bass-and-shuffle-driven opener ‘Maybe Forever’ and the bluesy, keyboard-soaked ‘Like A Lost Child’ show that for this bunch the streets may well indeed be paved with gold.

As Cargo has picked this up for distribution it should be relatively easy to find; otherwise go to www.eldoradorockband.com for more information.
