Re-releases of their first two studio albums.

Polish female fronted melodic power metal troupe Crystal Viper are re-releasing their first two studio albums (proper) ‘Curse Of The Crystal Viper’ and ‘Metal Nation’. The reason behind this is that the two albums first came out via a small German based label called Karthago and they are now both quite hard to get hold of. So those nice people over at AFM records decided to make it easier for you and me to get our hands on copies of said CDs. They have also (with the band’s help of course), squeezed a dozen bonus tracks on to the releases (six per CD).

If you’re unfamiliar with Crystal Viper and their music, the following is a short resumé…Formed round about 2003 in Katowice, by husband and wife team Marta and Marty (Bart) Gabriel the band have over the years gone through many line-up changes but are now a stable unit based around Marta on vocals and guitar who is joined by Andy Wave, Tom Woryna and Tomasz Danczak on guitar, bass and drums. The band play an energetic form of power metal that has elements as diverse as Manowar, early Maiden and mid-era Priest mixed in a large bowl with melodic hard rock. And having the sultry yet potent vocals of Marta adds a different veneer to the metal that the band plays, which doesn‘t hurt either.

With two albums and thirty-one tracks to choose from I find myself spoiled for choice as to which tracks to tell you about but here goes… From ‘COTCV’ we have the Maiden influenced ‘The Fury (Undead)’, ‘Shadows On The Horizon’ and ‘The Last Axeman’ songs that gallop along like a herd of unfettered horses; the band also have a nice line in brooding metal with tracks like ‘Island Of The Silver Skull’ and ‘Sleeping Swords’. From ‘MN’ we have the classy title track ‘Metal Nation’, the very melodic ‘1428’, the wonderfully entitled ‘Zombie Lust (Flesh Eaters)’ and the Manowar like ‘Gladiator: Die By The Blade’ and then we get to the bonus tracks. These are made up of cover songs from the bands Running Wild, Agent Steele, Manilla Road and Warlock, then there also some newer versions of older Crystal Viper songs to look out for. Finally there are some live cuts are thrown in to make these re-releases great value for your hard earned pennies.

If you only own the later Crystal Viper albums ‘Legends’ and ‘Crimen Excepta’ or their compilation CDs, then I think you’ll want to get your mitts on these fine re-issues as soon as possible because it’s rare these days to hear a metal band, fronted by a female singer who can out balls a lot of her male counterparts in the vocal department.
