A wonderful release.

‘To The End’ is the third album from Teutonic metal act Orden Ogan and it easily outshines their two previous albums. And that’s saying a lot because both ‘Vale’ and ‘Easton Hope’ were excellent slabs of smoking power metal, slightly tinged with folk elements. With ‘TTE’ Orden Ogan looked at what they did before, ripped up that blueprint and then they returned to the drawing board to record their best album to date. Lead singer Seeb says that all the band was interested in doing whilst they wrote the album, was making sure that they came up with an CD full of beautiful melodies and choruses that were instantly memorable. And with ‘To The End’ the band have come damn close to doing just that.

‘The Things We Believe In’ has a loping guitar riff that weaves its way in and out of the melodic structures of the song, and the hook is as the band wanted it to be: memorable. ‘The Ice Kings’ is a smouldering track that starts off slowly, with just a haunting piano and a lone vocal leading you into the song, which then grows into a subtle melody driven cut, bursting with some excellent acoustic and lead guitar work from the bands guitar player Tobi. ‘This World Of Ice’ has one of the heaviest riffs I’ve heard from this band, yet that heaviness works and it gives Orden Ogan a different and more mature sound from the music when compared with anything you might have heard from them before. The band has also finally recorded a couple of tracks that fans of Orden Ogan have been waiting for, for a very long time. ‘Mystic Symphony’ and ‘Angels War’ are songs that the band have been playing live for many years, yet for some reason they have never been recorded by the band: until now that is. The songs are probably the most traditionally sounding OO songs on the album (because of their age), though they still have at their hub, the powerful melodies the band have tried to inject into all the new songs on ‘TTE‘.

Finally I think that Orden Ogan has tried to focus on just two things as they wrote, recorded and produced this album. Firstly their new found musical philosophy and approach has added a freshness to their songs and this freshness was then attached like a limpet mine, to each and every melodic line that is found on this CD. Then secondly, the new confidence and vitality that the band has found, has been infused through out the album.

On this showing Orden Ogan can only go on to bigger and better things. ‘TTE’ is a wonderful release.
