Clearly a labour of love that will move the band to the next level of popular interest.

The Procession is building a reputation for itself following the winning of an international unsigned band competition with over 2000 entries. Following the release of its debut EP ´Sometimes´ in 2012, the band has encamped in Kasabian´s studio in Leicestershire to record ´You Are Now Leaving The Future´. This is the band´s debut full length album, produced by Jon Fowkes and they have a UK tour lined up to promote it.

The downside for Fireworks readers is that the music is a bit off-piste and is essentially indie rock; a bit grungy with youthful angst ridden vocals – you get the picture. As a result it will get more airplay than any classic rock band you can think of and good luck to them.

Forgetting demographics and market segmentation for a moment, it is a good album with a lot of musicality on display. The opening track, ´Hot Off The Press´, is full-on with a lot of rock guitar included whereas the subsequent ´A+E´ is more melancholic with the inevitable jangling guitars and a discordant guitar solo.

´Call You´ is an interesting track and already decided on to be the second single off the album. It is a duet with guest Emma Redhead and starting off with spoken vocals, it then turns into a very harmonious arrangement. The album´s first single, ´Cease And Desist´ which comes in later in the album is a good choice. It is the most catchy and memorable track with a rousing intro and a sing-along chorus; a good commercial track following a very indie-rock blueprint and will probably do some damage to the UK charts.

The tail of the album has some interesting Progressive Rock moments, notably the haunting intro to ´The Simple Things´ and the chorus to the final track ´Stopping Time (Cheated)´ that also has a great atmospheric ending with a lot of widdling synth work.

To sum up the album, it is clearly a labour of love and it will move the band to the next level of popular interest. It will be interesting to see how far they go.
