A DVD and CD compilation, and at budget price, for all those who enjoy metal in all its sub-genre varieties.

The previous releases in this series appeared in 2007 and 2009, so the third instalment is a very welcome DVD and CD compilation, and at budget price, for all those who enjoy metal in all its sub-genre varieties.

Now, I'm not certain as to how many readers of Fireworks that statement applies, and once you get towards the final quarter of the mammoth 36 songs on the DVD, one is very firmly into the more extreme metal styles and I admit to hitting the "next" button quite quickly for most of them. However, one for which that was not the case was Black Messiah and their song 'Windloni', as the video is really fascinating! However as I was watching the remaining 27 clips in their entirety, I realised that it would be possible to compile a list of anticipated imagery and mark them off as they appear. So, blood and gore (tick), skulls – human and animal (tick), scantily clad females (tick), torture (tick), mythical landscapes (tick)…you get the idea, and I think it would add another dimension to your viewing and listening pleasure.

Before you think I'm being just too darned flippant, you need to know there's some really great songs/videos here from recent AFM releases. I'm not going to list them, as if your interest is stirred, you can go and do the due diligence. You will also find that the accompanying CD has a further 15 songs, so a total of 51 across the two media is great bang for your buck, even when you discount the less palatable material. For most Fireworks readers that is likely to be virtually everything after track seven. It's the vocals that do it – or more appropriately, don't! It's such a shame when the band Mors Principium Est (great name: and no, I'd not heard of them previously either!) start their track 'Sorae' so promisingly, only for it to fall apart so comprehensively for those of us whose stomachs cannot manage offal (I think that's the word!?)

Anyway, I've ordered the previous two releases on the evidence presented here; but will you be prepared to start with 'III'?
