A compelling album of old style prog that many of you will love to listen to and discover.

Mogador are an Anglo-Italian progressive rock band with a decidedly English sound running through their music (read: Yes and early Genesis). This is their third album and lyrically it is one of the most different and complex albums I have ever heard. The songs are all about works of fine art and poetry and how the use of Absinthe (The Green Fairy) by the artists, whose work inhabits the songs on this album, impacted on their most famous works. So within the confines of this striking album, we encounter songs that feature lyrics taken from the poems of such luminaries as Mary Elizabeth Coleridge, Lord Byron, Emily Bronte, William Blake, Baudelaire and Edgar Allen Poe and elsewhere other tracks that are inspired by great painters like C.J Vernet and C.D. Friedrich whose paintings Two Men Contemplating The Moon and The Shipwreck, are used for motivation on a couple of the album's songs.

Now with all these highbrow words and images floating through the songs, you might feel that it could all get a little bit over whelming. This happily is not the case and the intricately assembled music from the band accompanying the lyrics of the poets and artists, only helps to draw you in to an intelligent and thoughtful world of classic sounding prog. Some highlights are 'Where Were Ye All' with lyrics taken from various pieces by Emily Bronte, on which the Jon Anderson-like vocals of Marco Terzaghi help you to wander through a musical countryside, stylistically littered with references to Yes, Jethro Tull and even Wishbone Ash.. Elsewhere you will find 'Prometheus', an epic poem written by Lord Byron in 1816, which is put to music with Mogador outdoing themselves to try to bring to life Byron's ideas and thoughts on the Greek legend. Another track to maybe whet your appetite is the instrumental piece 'Whispers To The Moon' inspired by a C.D. Friedrich painting and featuring a haunting piano, that weaves and entwines with the other instruments as it meanders in and out of the strange melodies that the band create. Finally let me introduce you to a song that lasts just one minute, 'The Sick Rose' with its beautiful words and dark imagery courtesy of William Blake; this brief song stays with you long after it has faded away.

Mogador have put together an album that makes the listener want to read the lyrics and then investigate the places and the people they came from. They have also recorded a compelling album of old style prog that many of you will love to listen to and discover. I know that I did...
