Highly recommended.

Though they've never been held in the high esteem reserved for the likes of Magnum and Ten, UK rockers Lost Weekend nevertheless have a string of well received AOR/Melodic Rock style albums to their name, and have played with the likes of Gotthard, Saxon, Thunder and FM. A change in personnel in 2008 saw a shift to a heavier twin guitar sound, and the resulting 'Fear And Innocence' album finally saw the band reaping the rewards of all their hard work, with their most accomplished work to date. However, in 2010 Lost Weekend called time on the band, but after one of the shortest hiatus' in Rock history, they're back with a brand new album, and an expanded line-up with keyboardist Irving Parratt rejoining the ranks.

While the extra instrumentation has enabled Lost Weekend to develop their dynamics more than ever before, sound-wise the bulk of the material actually harks back to the 'Presence Of Mind' and 'New Religion' albums, with an astounding number of catchy, up-tempo Melodic Rock anthems with the excellent 'Evermore' sitting atop the pile; all built around the soaring vocals of Paul Uttley and the fiery yet fluid guitar work of David Thompson, with the swirling keyboards to the fore of the melodies. Yet when the band really stretch their musical muscles, the results are remarkable. The opening 'Reach For The Sky' is straight from the Gary Hughes book of song-writing. A memorable dramatic epic with synthetic string passages that drive the song along, and sets a seemingly impossibly high standard for the rest of the album to follow. The darker mood of 'Got To Make It Through' continues the dynamic theme, and is reminiscent of the material these guys penned for Bob Catley's critically-acclaimed 'Spirit Of Man' album.

Catley is another point of reference for the mid-tempo ballad 'Angel Sublime' which truly lives up to its name, as Uttley's vocal delivery is very evocative of 'Uncle' Bob himself – you can just imagine him wrapping his tonsils around the gorgeous melody, while the beautiful acoustic work from Thompson throughout the song brings to mind Dare. 'Perfect Day' begins gently and gradually builds to a crescendo and reminds me a little of the bands classic 'Forever Moving On', and the seven-minute-plus emotional ballad 'Falling By The Wayside' is simply stunning. Embellished with an incredible production from the ever-reliable Martin Kronlund, the overall result is quite frankly, awesome.

Whatever the reasons may have been for the breathing space, it's worked wonders, as Lost Weekend have returned full of fire and vitality. As good as their previous albums have been, 'Evermore' simply blows them out of the water. Highly recommended!

I have been a fan of these guys since I listened to their 2000 release Presence of Mind, and ever since then, I have always made room for their brand of melodic rock into my ever growing CD collection. Now on the AOR Heaven label, Lost Weekend continues with a Journey meets Gotthard style that makes each of these tracks completely listenable. "Love Will Find You," "Got To Make It Through," the reflective "The Real World," which talks about a man remembering his high school crush as he's the "guy from high school." and she's the "one who got away," the soft "Angel Sublime," the gorgeous synthesizers of "Falling By The Wayside," are all CD highlights.

Make this part of your Lost Weekend CD collection. The sound is polished, full and mixed so that each instrument comes through clear and no note is out of place. Pleasing on the ears, Evermore is a wonderful slice of melodic rock.
