An album that just has to find a place in your music collection because it's absolutely tremendous.

tarting out as Dungeon (a band that recorded nine albums), this Australian act then changed its name and some personnel in 2005 and became Lord. They have released two EPs and three studio albums as Lord – and you know what? To my chagrin, I had never heard of them before. Though with the release of their fourth album 'Digital Lies', my ignorance has been well and truly shattered because Lord are one of those undiscovered gems you find every now and then (mostly when not looking), and have recorded what can only be described as an almost perfect melodic power metal album.

They play a riotous and highly addictive form of metal, with extra large slabs of melodic hard rock welded onto the songs for great effect and 'Digital Lies' from beginning to end just shouts quality. Yes you've heard this kind of thing before but never, I believe, done as well or with such panache. Firstly we have a singer, guitarist and song writer to die for in LT (Tim Grose), a man who knows when to inject just the right amount of melody into the hostility of Lord's songs, to get the most out of each of them. Then we come to the awesome rhythm section of Andy Dowling and Damian Costas whose bass and drum battles power this metallic monster along. Finally, when second guitarist Mark Furtner joins with LT they make their visceral guitar attack, not only a thing of beauty but a something to be admired.

Listen to the title track with it's ferocious guitar solo or the masterpiece that is 'Walk Away', a song filled with enough melody to put your average AOR band to shame, and tell me that Lord haven't recorded something pretty darn special. Then listen to more wonderful tracks such as the molten metal monsters 'Betrayal Blind' with its massive hookline, 'The Chalkboard Prophet' and its straight out of hell riff, the amazing 'Final Seconds' where the vocals of LT threaten to shatter your windows, as they hit notes only dogs can hear. Well, I reckon you'll soon find yourself grinning from ear to ear like a demented soul!

'Digital Lies' is an album that just has to find a place in your music collection because it's absolutely tremendous. Now I wonder if there's enough money down the back of the sofa so I can go buy their other albums?
