Based on this debut, I'd say Dendera have an exciting future ahead.

Dendera is a five piece Classic Heavy Metal band from Portsmouth; they released their debut EP 'We Must Fight' in 2011 and have opened for several established acts including Saxon.

The classic feel isn't just confined to the sound; it's also in the album's design with a retro eight tracks, all up tempo and lasting five minutes or more. There is a heavy Iron's/solo Dickenson influence prevalent throughout and the likes of 'The Predator' and 'My Mercy' features all the expected trademarks including galloping rhythm and lots of wailing dual lead work. One of my favourites 'Senlac Hill' reminds me a bit of 'The Trooper' with its military theme and sprinting pace. It's a tempestuous song with some furious guitar work, yet despite all its urgency the chorus is highly memorable. 'Hatechild' is a step down in pace and crunchier but another with lots of screaming lead as the rhythm chugs away underneath. The title track 'The Killing Floor' is a brooding song with another charging progression that leads onto a pretty catchy chorus. Of the eight songs the best song has to be 'Bridges Will Burn', which has a repeating riff that chimes through the opening and the first verse and an infectious chorus that literally erupts from nowhere.

Having enjoyed their live performances, I'm pleased to say that this is a 'beast' of a metal album. It grabs your attention from the first play and continues to get better with every listen. By selecting only eight tracks, Dendera have managed to fill the album with quality material throughout. If you're a fan of Maiden or solo Dickenson this is an album that should really thrill you. I'd stop short of saying it's a must own for Iron lovers but I will say a huge Maiden fan I know adores this album. Ashley Edison is a perfect vocalist for the material, he can both growl from the depths and wail to the skies. Guitarists Stephen Main and Tony Fuller really do let rip constantly and together these three put in a polished and forceful performance matched equally by the rhythm section. The production values are pretty much perfect with an exceedingly crisp and fresh finish that really allows the music to shine. If you're a fan of classic metal, I thoroughly recommend this as I do to anyone with a taste for quality, twin guitar fuelled heavy metal.

Based on this debut, I'd say Dendera have an exciting future ahead.
