Worth checking out.

Ian Danter's name will likely be unfamiliar – that is unless you are a sport or Kiss fan. Ian not only hosts the Talk Sport Radio show 'Football First', but was once a member of the UK's longest running Kiss tribute band Dressed To Kill, playing drummer Peter Criss' role in the band.

Despite concentrating more on his radio show these days, Ian is still a big music fan, and these songs have been waiting to be put down on tape for over a decade. With Lee Small (Shy) handling most of the vocals, Ian proves he is quite the multi-instrumentalist, playing bass and guitar as well as some lead and backing vocals. There is a clear influence of Thin Lizzy in the guitar playing, especially on 'Soulmate', and the vocals of Lee Small bring out a bright and breezy mood in the song. With only one listen I found this chorus buzzing around my head for days. Taking on a more blues/rock approach, 'She's From A Different Solar System' has more in common with Lynyrd Skynyrd, whereas 'Cloud Nine' treads a similar path to Bad Company. Both songs have an authentic old school US rock touch to them, with some expressive guitar work to match.

I especially enjoyed the pop rock leanings of 'Cloud Nine', which reminded me of the cult US act Jellyfish. The trippy chorus and twinkling power of the verses let the song sail along joyfully. 'Stronger Than That' has a smoky vocal, and is a true piece of seventies rock, not dissimilar to something the band Charlie may have cooked up. Ian takes over vocal duties on two songs – 'Prove Me Wrong', which owes more than a nod to the Foo Fighters with its punchy guitars and sharp lyrics, and the wonderfully titled 'I Wanna Be A Has Been', which may just be the best song the Wildhearts never wrote. Power pop at its best! 'I'll Get Around To It' is pure bar room boogie, and the ballad 'Crocodile Tears' is a soothing moment with an emotional chorus and a killer guitar solo supplied by Greg Platt Lake.

This album is real testament to Ian Danter's talents, and I for one am pleased these wonderful songs have seen the light of day. Worth checking out...
