The album is hard hitting both lyrically and aurally.

Although this is their first full album, the beginnings of Marion Crane go back nearly five years to vocalist, guitarist and songwriter S Thomas Crane's first inspirations of the band. The usual path of demos, independent releases and line-up changes have brought the band to where we are today delivering loud, biting rock in brutal fashion. From the opening chords of title track 'The New Religion' there's no doubting the direction Marion Crane are heading. Crane's vocals are raw – and roar – with a touch of Metallica's James Hetfield at times. With lyrical content revolving around violence, murder and the ills of modern day society in many forms, the album is hard hitting both lyrically and aurally. Crane has combined his loves of horror and rock in excellent style, not least with band name 'Marion Crane' being the principal murder victim in classic horror movie 'Psycho'

Guitarist Chris Stanton arrived in 2010 and is also pivotal to the band's sound with a full on, grunge – sort of power grunge, if there is such a thing. 'The New Religion' is an indictment of a world turned to materialism by fake reality TV. 'Bullet' increases the pace further before a brooding 'MMM' tells of mans' propensity for murder, man being 'the most dangerous animal': all thought provoking themes but arguments intelligently made, as with all of the lyrics throughout the album. There is little let up, 'Adrenaline' and 'DNR' are tracks where Crane and Stanton's guitar work combines nicely with Crane picking out the chords though the verses before the full on power of both hit you with some memorable chorus and searing soloing. 'House On The Hill' has a genuinely haunting feel to its tale of nightmare and horror and the album closes on a high with 'Kamikaze' opening acoustically and building into a Metallica style epic.

Marion Crane deliver. They deliver an aggressive mix of heavy rock and nu-metal with some conviction. This type of metal may not be to everyone's taste, but it is compelling and strangely very listenable. I guess that's a sign of quality shining through, so well worth giving them a chance.
