Well worth a listen.
Cayne is an Italian modern rock outfit who have honed their craft supporting the likes of Lacuna Coil in their home country. They actually formed in 1999 and released an album called 'Full Length Pictures' back in 2001. Since then, a period of inactivity followed, before some line up changes bring us up to the present date.
Only guitarist Claudio Leo remained from the original band, but unfortunately he tragically passed away aged only 40, shortly after the album was finished. Claudio, however, left behind something of which he can be proud.
The self-titled album heralds a new start for the band, and they kick off with plenty of energy via 'Waiting'. The sound is modern and crisp, the fuzzy fat bass sound on 'Don't Tell Me' working beautifully against the cutting guitar tone. Vocalist Giordano Lanfranchi has a good voice and sings with the barest trace of an accent, which is a big plus for my tastes. The riffing is excellent, as evidenced on the powerhouse 'Deliverance'.
At times, the band remind me a little of Fozzy, managing to marry modern rock sounds with some excellent hooks and breaks. 'The awesome 'Addicted' is dark and nasty, almost Metallica-ish, while 'King Of Nothing' has a much more commercial slant, despite it's hard edge.
If I'm being ultra-critical, I thought the album was maybe two songs too long, with the thirteen tracks on offer weighing in at almost an hour. However, I must stress the entire album has been growing on me more and more with repeated plays.
There's a great deal to enjoy here – if you like modern rock and metal, Cayne offer a fine take on it. Well worth a listen.
